AERC 2010 – Caja del Rio

This is my fourth AERC event, and my second at the Caja del Rio plateau, east of Santa Fe. After the first three, I took a class online about equine photography, so I’ve been anxious to put the new information to the test. Unfortunately, I was not able to practice much at all during the class, so didn’t get the benefit of feedback and criticism from the instructor. So this is really the first time I’ve been able to try things out.

Third time’s a charm.

I recently completed my third shoot for an outdoor equestrian event, hosted by the AERC. I love doing these rides, as I get to drive around in otherwise restricted areas of amazing land, take pictures of gorgeous horses, and generally get my photo mojo going. This week, I participated in two days of a three-day event, and I thought I’d share some of my thoughts on this specific event, as well as some more general lessons I’m learning.

You can also sign up for an online course on equestrian photography basics with Carien Schipper. This course will cover camera gear, setting up poses for conformation based on breed, head shots, action shots, and more. At $169, it sounds like a great deal, and covers six week (one section per week).

You can turn Wacom pressure options on and off right up in the Options bar. When you have a tool that supports pressure sensitivity selected, click the pen icon over a transparency to control the Opacity and choose the pen icon over a bulls-eye to control the brush size. (via planetphotoshop.com)

Have you explored the blend modes available in Photoshop? If so, you can get to most of your favorites by using a shortcut: Shift + Option/Alt + (first letter of blend mode).
